Helene Mukhtar will be presenting 3 major mixed media paintings from her Harmony and Graffiti series in this exhibition, which will run from October 2nd to October 31st. An opening reception is scheduled October 9th at 8pm. The gallery is located 27 North Moore Street, Tribeca, NY, 10013.
Helene Mukhtar’s work reflects the uncertainty and unease permeating our societies today. Her work is based on paper collages and oil paint on canvas. Born in France, she now lives in Brooklyn and travels extensively.
Her photographs are the inspiration for her work. Printed on paper and glued on to the canvas, they become the visual jumping point from where she puzzles out what each piece will be. Sometimes maps, newspapers, pieces of cardboard are used with her photographs. In the Harmony series, Mukhtar uses music partitions and photographs from the Palais d’Orsay in Paris to explore the relationship between the line and the circle, between music score and architecture. In the series Graffiti, her starting point becomes photographs of Graffiti.
