Yorgos MARYELIS
BRIEF C.V.
Yorgos Maryelis was born in Athens in 1943. He came to know the world of art since he was a child, as his father was the famous painter and professor of conjectural and applied arts, Kostas Maryelis.
He will conclude his first term of studies, obtaining a degree (1963) in Athens, during which he will receive four Studies Awards.
The conclusion of his studies and the acknowledgment of his talent was realized with his studies in advanced drawing and coloring in the shop of the internationally known Greek sculptor and painter Andreou in Paris.
Yorgos Maryelis has participated in many exhibitions from 1963 (beginning with the 7th Panhellenic Exhibition in Zappeion Megaro in Athens) until today, both in Greece and abroad (most of them including a committee for the evaluation and approval of participation).
Many Yorgos Maryelis paintings are among private collections in Greece and abroad, as well as in many Municipal Galleries in Greece.
His rich artistic activity, was accompanied (and still is) by a successful professional activity in Architecture, Design and Conjectural intervention. Hundreds of buildings in Greece and abroad, many cruise ships and yachts have been constructed and decorated according to his designs.
References to Yorgos Maryelis’ multi-faced activity, “one of the biggest talents” in Andreou’s own words, have been made in the “Album of Greek Artists” (ed. G. Kominis – 1963), the “Two-volume Artistic Dictionary” (ed. G. Kourtikakis – 1977), the “Four-volume Art Dictionary” (ed. Melissa – 1977), the “Dictionary of Greek Designers”, the “International Dictionary ‘Who’s Who in Design’” (ed. Barons – USA), the “International Dictionary ‘Who’s Who of the World’” (ed. Barons – USA) and in many articles and photographs in architectural and other specialized journals and periodicals.
Yorgos Maryelis is a founding member of the “Panhellenic Designers Association” (1973), a member of the “Bureau of European Designers Associations” (1987), member of the “International Federation of Interior Architects” (1988) and member of the “International Furnishing & Design Association” (2002).
